Cape Horn

It is now safe to say that cpt. Tomasz Cichocki and his yacht "Polska Miedz" are unthreatenend. After five days of storms, high tides and snow blizzards brave captain managed to safely sail through the Drake Passage. It is our pleasure to say that "Polska Miedz" is now on it's way back home, and in a couple of months (we hope for no more than three) will reach it's destination. Let's hope for good weather and helpful winds.

A little bit brighter

Waters surrounding the invincible Delphia Yacht are calm these days. 2-3 meters high tides, light wind and a bright sky allow captain to rest a bit, perhaps even make some dinner. As you can see on the location page, you can now see both current position, and route from almost 6 months ago. There is a proof that earth is round after all. We keep our fingers crossed (as usual) for Tomek, keeping in mind that the toughest party of the journey - hell waters of Cape Horn - are still ahead.

In the center of hell on earth...

Fearless captain, Tomasz Cichocki has been sailing almost for 200 days now!
Consider the fatigue that must accompany "Cichy" as well as the incredibile strength of his yacht, which enabled him sailing for half of year! Tomasz, you're getting closer to Cape Horn! Fingers crossed!

Closer to Cape Horn

On 6 December 2011 Australian RCC spotted AIS signal from Cichocki's yacht at the height of Cape Leeuwin.
At this point on the route to Cape Horn Tomasz defeated 3700 miles and to the notorious place it left him to sail next 2900 miles. An analysis of the geographical position also clearly indicates that Tomasz on his brave Delphia definitely covered more than half of the route. Yet, we remember that the heroic voyage continues without communication with the world.

Countdown!

Last weekend was very fruitful and rich in good news for the project. On Christmas Day Tomasz surprised us with the best gift a lonely sailor can give anyone - contacting. To make things even more interesting, "Polish Copper" was at this time almost exactly on the other side of the globe! Moments before "Cichy" sailed into the third ocean on the route - the Pacific, which incidentally, is not so calm (the weather maps - currently show 35 knots and waves 5 meters high).

Contact!

This morning at 7:30 Krzysztof Mikunda, the project leader, received a phone call from a vessel with which Captain Cichocki contacted at the use of a short-wave radio. Tomasz provided information that clearly shows that everything is OK with him. He confirmed that, despite the failure of his satellite communication system, he has decided to continue the voyage. He also said that his computer predicts to reach Cape Horn in about a month's time. He gave his position. We could not even expect a more beautiful and more touching Christmas gift form Tomasz than hearing the news!

Merry Christmas

We're very excited about this new deal with great people of exactEarth.

we've found him!

After almost two weeks of drama we finally can confirm that cpt. Cichocki and his yacht "Polska Miedz" is safe. This weekend satellite was able to catch his AIS signal, and confirmed his location few hundred miles from Australian shore. That means that there are absolutely no reasons to think that "Polska Miedz" had any other problem than the connectivity. Unfortunately captain apparently decided not to fix this problem, and continues to sail further, without any way to contact us.
